Haters of Dawkins find new friends on Twitter

So, a lot of people apparantely think Richard Dawkins is racist.

Dawkins said the following things on Twitter:

Now, how did the social justice warriors read this?

Well, Richard Dawkins is of course racist, right?

That is the opinion of Amber:

Some Twitter users try to set her straight:

Jamie was concerned that she couldn't handle the response, so he came to the rescue:

Rebecca Watson picks up on the story:

Amber is delighted:

Jamie celebrates:

Let's have a closer look at Amber's arguments on Twitter. These are usually her concluding arguments:

Recap:

  1. Some "social justice" warriors think Dawkins is racist for even talking about the word
  2. No additional evidence is provided for this claim
  3. Trying to engage with these people makes you a "toughguy" trying to harrass the fragile, innocent females
  4. Rebecca Watson reflexively friends women who hate Richard Dawkins
  5. "Feminist" Jamie Kilstein asks Dawkins to "suck his nuts".
  6. The best proof of racism is a penis rendered in text.

  1. Imagine the outrage if Dawkins actually *did* say something racist, or said something like "suck my nuts Kilstein" or "nerd-pretendo-toughguys"

    God, twitter is awful.

  2. I'd like to start a charity. Basically, we raise money to get these people dictionaries in which words like "racist" and "sexist" are highlighted, with their actual definition in big, bold letters.

    1. Dictionaries are forbidden in the Gnu Feminist religion. Just like evolution textbooks are forbidden to Christian fundamentalists.

  3. John - We can buy them at the dollar store and use a highlighter. For a buck a pop we only need to consider postage.

  4. white privilege *does* exist, and "reverse racism" *can't* exist. race isn't defined as a hatred or intolerance of another race. "Racism is when intolerance in government laws, attitudes and ideals of a society are ingrained in a culture to the point where patterns of discrimination towards a certain race are institutionalized as normal. If you keep this in mind, you’ll understand that reverse racism doesn’t- and can’t- exist." (The blog racism-education.tumblr.com said it better than I could). It is, of course, possible for a white person to experience intolerance or prejudice, but they cannot experience racism. just. let. it. sink. in.

    1. When you invent your own definitions, you can create any world you want.

    2. Ashley, your ignorant POV completely ignores the fact that much racism happens on an individual level.

You people are so fucking clueless about racism and privilege it beggers belief.

    3. The definition you pulled from tumblr sounds more like a working definition of privilege, not racism. The two aren't the same.

      Racism is defined as such:
the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.
prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one’s own race is superior:

  5. Ashley: nice job pulling a definition that you happen to agree with from some obscure website. How about an actual dictionary, like Merriam-Webster?
"1: a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race
    2: racial prejudice or discrimination"
I see nothing in there stating that the racist must be the member of a privileged ethnic group, and, yeah, racism IS "defined as a hatred or intolerance of another race".

This whole notion that the Oppressed and Marginalized (TM) cannot possibly be racist, sexist, and just as hateful and bigoted as the Privileged (TM) because of, well, Privilege (TM), is fundamentally flawed. It's a convenient excuse for shitty behavior, though.

If you need an argument why it's flawed, think about this: ethnic group A rules in country C, and oppresses and discriminates against group B. By the logic above, any racial prejudices and plots for revenge by B against A cannot be racist (or "reverse racist"), because A is privileged. Now the tables are turned; there's a coup d'etat, the Bs take control and implement their long-hatched plans for butchering As. Their mindset is the same, their actions are what they wanted to do for a long time, and all of a sudden it's changed from "not racist" to "racist", because the "privilege" is now on their side. Doesn't seem like a very useful definition of "racism", does it?

  6. Amber Eeeeeee is a typical Skepchick/FTBully.

Snarky, arrogant, ignorant, unable to respond logically to criticism...

No wonder Rebecca Watson and Jamie Kilstein found her to be an instant friend.

  7. Jamie Kilstein has an uncanny ability to grate on my nerves. He's like the second level of internet tough guy, whose shtick is to call out others as internet tough guys. What's worse still is when someone takes him to task for the sad poseur he is, his immediate and only recourse is high school level profanity which, coming from himself, is AWESOME because he's a COMEDIAN and he totally just showed everyone what's WHAT and don't anyone start with HIM.
I don't understand people who can spend 5 minutes in a room with Jamie Kilstein without opening their (or his) arteries.
